Dr. Gennady "Gene" Shapiro has seen the future of dentistry - and it's all about the patient experience. The Glendale dentist has obviously taken notes during his tenure as a hospital-based dentist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, which spends millions each year to provide patients with an exceptional experience.
At Dr. Shapiro's private practice, the Shapiro Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, the experience starts with a lovely, flower-shaded red brick office off North Central Avenue. There's a cappuccino bar and massage chair out front, and neck warmers, face towels and comfy blankets once patients hit the chair. Slip on a pair of virtual reality video glasses for a movie, and you might just forget you're at the dentist.
Then there's the smell … or, more accurately, lack of.
Dr. Shapiro knows that one of the major senses associated with fear and anxiety is the sense of smell. So, he banished old-style (and smelly) dental materials. "Small details create a significant level of comfort," he notes.
Patient-focused details also include using the latest dental technology. Equipment financing through City National's New York-based subsidiary, First American Equipment Finance, has allowed Dr. Shapiro to equip his practice with everything from advanced 3D cone beam X-rays to digital impression trays that create perfectly fitting crowns without the gooey mess.
Dr. Shapiro's relationship with City National began simply enough. A successful refinance of his primary residence soon led to him sitting down with CNB Business Banking Relationship Manager Marat Manucharyan. "I was attracted to CNB because I sensed they had a new way of helping people," Dr. Shapiro says. "I found myself working with very educated, very experienced people who were proactive in providing the guidance I needed for my personal as well as my business needs."
Today, Dr. Shapiro's relationship with City National is an all-encompassing one that includes a residential mortgage, several commercial loans, equipment financing and wealth management services. "I want a bank that is always ahead of me," he explains. "I like working with people who can tell me what I don't know … what's in the future and how it can be done."
In the end, Dr. Shapiro's experience as a client of City National Bank has been just as pleasant as the one he strives to provide his patients. "Someone at the bank will always contact me and ask, 'Have you considered this?' It's very refreshing. They are more like a trusted advisor who always seems to have my best interests in mind."
