The Position Reflects the Growing Importance of Professional Service Firms in California and Nevada

LOS ANGELES, March 5, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) - City National Bank announced today that Jan Patterson has been named to the position of senior vice president and professional services segment manager.

Patterson will be based at City National Plaza in downtown L.A. and will report to Thom Miller, executive vice president and director of marketing at City National. She will work with line managers to increase segment-specific revenues and profitability by coordinating product development and delivery, and coordinating the execution of marketing efforts across divisions. She also will assess new segment opportunities and marketing approaches.

There are an estimated 350,000 companies in California and Nevada that provide legal, medical, accounting and other professional services, and their numbers are growing. Professional service firms account for an increasing number of City National's clients. To take advantage of growth opportunities in the category, Patterson will help with strategic development and coordinate all marketing efforts targeted at professional service companies.

"Jan is a highly qualified professional whose years of banking experience in both line and segment management will add great value to City National's strategic growth in the high-potential professional services sector," Miller said. "She is a proven marketing and sales leader with demonstrated success in loan and deposit growth and bottom-line performance."

Patterson has more than 30 years of experience in commercial, consumer and private banking and segment management.

For the past two years, she was the president and chief marketing officer of San Diego Private Bank. From February 2002 to January 2006, she was executive vice president of client services for Legacy/Landmark Bank in northern San Diego County. And from November 2000 to October 2001, Patterson was chief executive officer of Sunrise Bank of San Diego.

From November 1999 to November 2000, she was a team leader with Bank of America's private bank in San Diego. Before that, she worked for 16 years in various capacities with Union Bank of California.

Patterson is active in the San Diego community. She is a former chairman and president and a current board member of the Corporate Directors Forum, chairing its finance committee and co-chairing its Director of the Year event. Patterson is a board member and the investment committee chair of the Japanese Friendship Gardens and a board member of the San Diego Museum of Man, both located in San Diego's Balboa Park.

She has received numerous civic and professional accolades, including the San Diego Daily Transcript's 2007 Top Influential Business Leader for the San Diego Region.
