LAS VEGAS, NV – City National Bank, Nevada’s Premier Private and Business Bank®, today announced that it has appointed Luis Valera as a member of its Southern Nevada Advisory Board.  Valera is a prominent member of the business and academic community in southern Nevada and was recently appointed by Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval as a commissioner of the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada.

Prior to his appointment last month to the PUC, Valera served as government relations director for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.  He also served for several years as public affairs director for the Nevada Resort Association in Las Vegas.  Valera moved to Las Vegas in 2001 to serve as financial advisor for Orgill Singer & Associates.  Prior to relocating to Las Vegas, Valera served as government affairs associate for the National Ocean Industries Association in Washington, D.C.  He also served for a short time as a legislative correspondent for U.S. Representative John Ensign.
 
Valera graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.  He also earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the William S. Boyd School of Law in Las Vegas.
 
Valera is actively involved in the community serving on the board or as a volunteer of several trade and nonprofit organizations.  He is currently serving as chairman of the Latin Chamber of Commerce.  He also serves or has served as commissioner of the Nevada Commission on Economic Development, the Alumni Board of Directors of UNLV’s College of Liberal Arts, and as president of the Nevada Tourism Alliance in Las Vegas.
