LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 16, 2002--City National Bank(NYSE:CYN), California's Premier Private and Business Bank(R),announced today that it has opened a private banking office in NewYork City.

Located on the 20th floor of a midtown Manhattan high-rise at 400Park Avenue, City National's New York Office offers private banking,business banking and other specialized services, and reports to MarthaHenderson, executive vice president and manager of City National'sEntertainment Division.

Frank Baudille, formerly a first vice president and manager withHSBC's New York entertainment and media private banking unit, willhead the new office. Gerald Mathe, who was with the same unit at HSBC,also has joined City National's New York office as a vice presidentand senior relationship manager. Several colleagues from Californiahave transferred to New York to fully deliver City National'srelationship-driven, service-oriented financial solutions to thebank's clients in New York.

Baudille has spent the past five years building the entertainmentprivate banking practice at HSBC (formerly Republic National Bank).Prior to that, he was a vice president and team leader with ChaseManhattan Bank's private banking group. Baudille began his bankingcareer with that company in 1979 in branch administration and laterheld positions in its foreign multinational, residential mortgage andconsumer credit divisions. He studied finance at New York University.

Mathe was a vice president and relationship manager with HSBC forfive years and held the same position with Chase Manhattan Bank'sentertainment group from 1992 to 1997. He joined Chase (formerlyManufacturers Hanover) in 1977, serving first in its national divisionand later in its corporate trust group. Mathe also has held positionswith Franklin State Bank and People's Trust of New Jersey, where hebegan his career in 1972. He holds an undergraduate degree from EdisonCollege in Trenton, N.J.
