LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 30, 2001--Bill Richardson, whoserved in former President Bill Clinton's cabinet as U.S. Secretary ofEnergy from June 1998 to January 2001, has been elected to the boardof directors of City National Corp. (NYSE:CYN) and City National Bank.
Richardson, 53, also has held other appointive governmental postsincluding U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, and served eightterms in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing New Mexico's3rd Congressional District, from 1983 to 1997. He was thehighest-ranking Hispanic in the Clinton Administration.

Originally from Pasadena, Calif., Richardson is an adjunctprofessor of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at HarvardUniversity, a United States Institute of Peace Fellow and serves as aconsultant for the global and energy power group of Salomon SmithBarney.
Richardson also serves as managing director of Kissinger McLartyAssociates, an international strategic advisory firm specializing inLatin America and international energy issues. The firm was formed bythe merger of two organizations headed by former Secretary of StateHenry Kissinger and Mack McLarty, who served as President Clinton'schief of staff.
Richardson is also a member of eight corporate and non-profitboards of directors, including those of Valero Energy, PeregrineSystems (in San Diego) and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
Richardson holds an M.A. degree from the Fletcher School of Lawand Diplomacy, and a B.A. from Tufts University. He has also receiveda number of honorary degrees throughout his career.
